Margate is a playground for creative experimentation, from Mods and Rockers to tidal pool wild swimmers, Provincial Punkers to Dream-makers, the town’s identity is built on subcultures. In 2015, Margate Festival revived and celebrated the seaside tribes of summers past and present through a month-long festival, TRIBES.
Participants enjoyed an array of artistic performances, exhibitions and events by the seaside as Turner Contemporary, the newly opened pleasure park Dreamland and partners brought together all of Margate’s tribes for a feast of summer activity.
The festival featured digital games, installations and artist-led invasions; film screenings, workshops and pop-up performances.
