OPPORTUNITIES

Wider Programme Call Out

Margate NOW are looking for events and exhibitions to be part of the wider programme for this year’s festival!

Margate NOW 2021: Sunken Ecologies, curated by Anna Colin, takes on the human-made natural environment and centres on the Sunken Garden, a public park in the Westbrook area of Margate designed and landscaped in the 1930’s. During the festival, the Sunken Garden will act as a catalyst for botanical, social and speculative investigation and be a space to present artworks, and reclaim or reimagine green spaces.

Sunken Ecologies embraces topics that are dear to an increasing number of cultural practitioners and environmentally-engaged individuals and communities. From growing, nurturing and extracting transferable learnings from nature and its associated cosmologies, to questioning physical and cultural access to nature, the artists and guest organisations taking part in Sunken Ecologies approach environmental themes and practices through documentation, investigation, speculation, material reconfiguration and community making. Sunken Ecologies will present contributions in forms ranging from sculpture, installation, film, live music, performance, walks and workshops.

We’re looking for events and exhibitions taking place all around the Margate area. The festival runs from 25th September – 10th October (opening night on Friday 24th September). Margate’s First Friday will fall on 1st October, where there will be a variety of ecologically-focused events happening around the town!

Do you have an event or exhibition happening on these dates that fits our themes? Or do you have an idea for something you want to make happen? We’d love to hear from you!

As part of the wider programme Margate NOW can offer marketing and press support, but unfortunately cannot offer funding.

To apply, please fill out the Google Form here.

Deadline: 31st August
