MARGATE NOW 2020

25 September – 11 October

Margate NOW 2020 aimed to increase online cultural activity and to deliver real-world, socially distanced experiences. The festival was Guest Curated by People Dem Collective, a community group based in Margate.

Over the three weekends, we celebrated the best contemporary culture from Margate’s world-class creative community with a range of diverse and inclusive events.

About People Dem Collective

People Dem Collective is a community group based in Margate. Due to launch in March 2020, they had to pause because of the global pandemic. They facilitate systemic change, promote healing and continue the work of their ancestors.

Members of the leadership team are from Black, Brown & Diaspora communities in Thanet. The collective was born out of a lived experience of lack of space, engagement and inclusion for Black, Brown & Diaspora communities. Their focus is on raising aspirations whilst elevating and healing those from within these communities. People Dem Collective also has a strong positive focus on supporting and acknowledging white people to become positive allies amongst their own community.
